It’s not a bad concept. States have been writing their own versions, called Standards of Education, since the Constitution gave the States the responsibility for this part of socialization of the populace. I think it’s been the only responsibility of the Federal Government in education since its inception, but Congress saw fit to give the Dept. of Education some power through the distribution of tax dollars. Nice idea, except that it made the States dependent on the Federal government for much of their education funding.
It’s not the Standards as they are currently written and it is not how much money it will cost to implement them. They could be phased in easily with normal text book replacement programs. Teachers would have time to change over lesson plans (same concepts, different references) and there could be a smooth transition.
Here’s the problem with the Federal Government setting the standards instead of offering recommendations (and passing out money).
The concern is what comes with the changes in the Common Core. The liberal/progressive agenda has put into place books normalizing homosexuality, homosexual relations, homosexual families, sketchy as well as sound climate change science, normalized abortion as ‘women’s health, organized free contraception give-a-ways to our middle and high school students, and arranged for the ’emergency’ morning after pill to be sold over-the-counter to any girl of any age. Discussion of religion is no longer allowed in our public schools and there is a concerted effort to deny the religious influence over the founding of our nation. Marriage may be anything you want it to be instead of the solid foundation of ‘man and wife’ that has been a social mainstay for as long as records have been kept of The Village story so many of you ‘march’ to.
We simply don’t care for the way liberalism has systematically taken apart those things that make for a strong and unified nation; faith in God and Country, family, and being held responsible for one’s actions. Common Core looks good now, but as it evolves further and the Federal Government ties it to money distributed in the future for education we’ll be stuck with this weakened foundation for our nation for more than a generation or two.
